School Refusal

Academic & School

Support for children experiencing severe anxiety, panic, or physical distress when preparing for or attending school.

School refusal is not simple truancy or laziness. It is an anxiety-driven condition where a child experiences genuine, paralyzing fear or somatic discomfort at the prospect of leaving home or entering the classroom.

  • Morning stomach aches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or headaches that disappear on weekends
  • Panic attacks, clinging to parents, crying spells, or freezing at the school gate
  • Persistent pleading to stay home or frequent visits to the school infirmary
  • Sleep difficulties on Sunday nights or end of school vacations
  • Separation anxiety disorder (fear of something bad happening to parents while away)
  • Social phobia, peer bullying, teasing, or fear of negative evaluation
  • Academic overload, undetected learning difficulties, or strict school environments
  • Recent life transitions such as moving cities, changing schools, or family illness
  • Absences exceeding consecutive days or falling severely behind academically
  • Extreme morning distress causing physical struggles or family deadlock
  • Complete social withdrawal from friends and outside activities
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for separation and social anxiety
  • Graduated stepwise school reintegration protocols
  • Coordinated collaboration with school teachers, counselors, and parents
